ehc-bovey-great-western-header-2737952The wait is over, rejoice in the grand relaunching of the Great Western Grill at Bovey Castle. After a three-year wait, we’re excited to welcome guests once again from Friday 30th June. Here’s 10 reasons why you should visit and why we’re the best restaurant in Devon…

1. A restaurant with a fascinating history

One of the things that makes the Great Western Grill the best restaurant in Devon is its unique history. The restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s history, originally built by the WH Smith dynasty in 1907, it first opened as a hotel in 1930 by the Great Western Railway, which inspired the restaurant’s name.

2. Awards that speak for themselves

The Great Western Grill operates under head chef Mark Budd, and has proudly been awarded a 3 AA Rosette for culinary excellence. The AA Rosette award, which began in 1956, was the UK’s first nationwide scheme that assessed the quality of food served by restaurants and hotels.

3. Inspired by sustainable produce

Here at Bovey we’re passionate about sustainability, which is why the Great Western Grill menu includes produce and ingredients that are both high quality and sourced where possible from the Bovey estate and the surrounding local areas. From local game to lamb, aged Dartmoor Farmers beef, and fish from the coast around the Southwest, our produce comes at no additional harm to the environment, and minimal miles.

4. A menu with something for everyone to enjoy

Head Chef, Mark Budd’s carefully created menu takes some of our favourite classic dishes and reinvents them using the best of British produce. At the best restaurant in Devon, you can expect freshly cooked food that’s bursting with flavour. From dressed Brixham crab salad to red wine braised oxtail cottage pie and poached native lobster with truffle macaroni cheese. Timeless dishes as you’ve never tasted them before.
