Email usOption 1 – Birds of prey experience
An afternoon spent with birds of prey is quite unforgettable. You will get to fly a variety of different birds of prey, observe their individual characteristics and see close up the wonderful partnership that exists between falconers and their birds. This session is held on the herbaceous border that surrounds the summerhouse at Bovey Castle.

Option 2 – Falconry experience
A hands-on falconry session at Martin Whitley’s falconry centre lasting approximately 3 hours. Starts with an introduction to the various types of birds of prey cared for by Martin, before moving on to flying owls, working with high-speed falcons and then an Eagle Experience, before returning to the hotel with a hawk escort.

VIEW OUR CONFERENCE BROCHUREIn our authentic Long Barn learn not only how to make cider and sloe gin, but also about the history of making traditional drinks. Start the cider making process by crushing the apples in our cider press, taste the freshly squeezed juice and, of course, sample some cider made by previous guests. Move on to sloe gin making and tasting. During the autumn fresh sloe berries are picked and used to make sloe gin. At other times, seasonal fruits are used.

Learn how to use a re-curve bow and have a shot at a range of targets. Also have a go with the air rifles. This is a fun activity which can be arranged to be as competitive or as friendly as you wish.

Wander through the estate to our clay range to try your hand-eye coordination with a 410 shotgun. Whether it’s your first time or you’re an experienced shot, the clays are sure to entertain.

Laser Clays is a totally unique, hi-tech electronic version of the country sport clay pigeon shooting and is ideal for larger groups. Using de-activated shotguns, participants test their skill by firing laser beams at clays fired from a traditional trap. The shotguns use an infrared pulse which acts the same as a traditional cartridge.

This event can either be run for individuals or for teams within the hotel grounds between late April – late September. In the event of bad weather an indoor fair can be organised. Activities at the fair can include: skittles alley, coconut shy, splat the rat, welly throwing, popcorn machine, croquet, apple pressing, ferret handling, apple bobbing and archery.

Learn the art of fly fishing from our expert fisherman Mike down on the lake at Bovey Castle. Mike provides all the equipment needed and brings with him years of experience and fisherman’s tales! Brown and rainbow trout are the most commonly caught fish in the lake.
