At Bovey Castle, we believe hospitality is about so much more than service. It is about people, growth and opportunity. That is why we are so proud to launch The Bovey Academy, a brand-new programme designed to inspire school and college leavers and guide them into a rewarding career, while giving parents the reassurance of structure, support and future prospects.
Starting this autumn, The Bovey Academy will welcome up to 12 young people into a 12-month journey of discovery. Over the year, students will gain practical, hands-on experience across the hotel while also learning essential life skills that will serve them well far beyond their career. From financial wellbeing and confidence building to cyber security and emotional intelligence, the programme is as much about nurturing resilience as it is about training for the workplace.
Alongside these life lessons, apprenticeships form the foundation of the experience. With pathways ranging from Level 2 Hospitality to Level 3 Spa, every student will receive dedicated one-to-one support, either through weekly college sessions or in-house training with our talented team. Hospitality apprentices will rotate across food and beverage service, reception, housekeeping and guest services, while spa apprentices will work towards a Level 3 qualification in Beauty, Wellbeing and Holistic Therapy as part of our wider talent programme.
We know that many parents and students are concerned about the myths surrounding careers in hospitality. Long hours, low pay and limited progression are outdated stereotypes that no longer reflect the opportunities available in our fast-paced and exciting industry. At Bovey Castle, every apprentice works 40 hours a week and earns a starting salary of £11.47 per hour, well above the national apprenticeship rate of £7.55. Every graduate of The Bovey Academy is guaranteed a job with us, opening doors to senior roles across the sector such as general manager, head chef, spa leader or front-of-house expert. The possibilities are limitless.
As part of the Eden Hotel Collection, we have been recognised as one of the Top 30 Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2024 by The Caterer and proudly named Best Employer at the Springboard Awards for Excellence. Over the last three years, 92 percent of our apprentices have stayed with us and 86 percent have built their careers with us for more than two years. These numbers reflect the care we put into developing and valuing every member of our team.
The Bovey Academy is an opportunity to start a career with confidence, supported by the experience of our people, our partners and our ethos of excellence. It is a chance for young people to step into an inspiring environment, learn skills for life and create a future filled with opportunity.
