With September right around the corner, it won’t be long before there’s crunchy leaves afoot and pumpkins out on porches. Enjoy autumn with a touch of luxury at Bovey with your significant other. Did you know you can also bring your canine companion with you and enjoy a UK dog friendly stay in style? Keep reading to discover our top 5 fun things to do at Bovey.

1. Bike your way round Bovey

Autumn is a fantastic time to see Bovey, with vast countryside grounds to explore, crisp air to breathe and stunning orange scenery, you and your significant other will want to see it all. We recommend hiring a bike at Bovey, so you can cover more ground and get your heart racing.

Keep your eyes peeled for rare wildlife and flowers. Bikes hired at Bovey are strictly for the grounds, but if you’d like to challenge yourself and discover more of Dartmoor we’d advise hiring your bike here.

2. Walk your way round Bovey

If you’d prefer a leisurely walk around the grounds and going further afield with your furry companion at your side, we can provide you with a walk booklet starting from the hotel and expanding out to the rest of Dartmoor. This is a great chance to soak up the autumnal scenery of the rolling Devonshire countryside, immerse yourself in Bovey’s historic 275 acres, and enjoy a dog friendly stay in the UK that prioritises peace, natural beauty and fulfilment.

3. Eat your way round Bovey

After exploring the grounds on foot or bike, you and your pooch have probably worked up an appetite. Settle down to enjoy a British staple, our afternoon tea, filled with sweet and savoury treats for you to tuck into. Later on you can both head over to our Cathedral Room to indulge in an award-winning evening meal, and with a special dog menu available they can enjoy a taste of the action too.

Dogs can also join their owners in the Library, and explore our impeccable range of books. Once you’ve found the book for you, curl up in our seating area under the main staircase. If the sun is shining, take your four legged friend out onto the South Terrace to enjoy a delicious cold beverage.

4. Relax your way round Bovey

Everyone needs a relaxing break – that’s why our luxurious spa is a great way to unwind with your other half this autumn. This will be a great opportunity for you to leave your dog to relax and sleep off the walks and food in your hotel room, whilst you and your partner enjoy a well deserved pampering.

5. Play your way round Bovey

As the winner of the 2020 PetsPyjamas award, (think TripAdvisor, but for stays and activities with your dog), we think it’s only right you top off your dog friendly stay in the UK by taking advantage of the Bovey Gardens, where you can soak up the great autumnal outdoors like never before.

Bovey Castle is a dog friendly destination with endless activities to keep you and your furry friend entertained. ehc-bovey-great-western-header-2737952The wait is over, rejoice in the grand relaunching of the Great Western Grill at Bovey Castle. After a three-year wait, we’re excited to welcome guests once again from Friday 30th June. Here’s 10 reasons why you should visit and why we’re the best restaurant in Devon…

1. A restaurant with a fascinating history

One of the things that makes the Great Western Grill the best restaurant in Devon is its unique history. The restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s history, originally built by the WH Smith dynasty in 1907, it first opened as a hotel in 1930 by the Great Western Railway, which inspired the restaurant’s name.

2. Awards that speak for themselves

The Great Western Grill operates under head chef Mark Budd, and has proudly been awarded a 3 AA Rosette for culinary excellence. The AA Rosette award, which began in 1956, was the UK’s first nationwide scheme that assessed the quality of food served by restaurants and hotels.

3. Inspired by sustainable produce

Here at Bovey we’re passionate about sustainability, which is why the Great Western Grill menu includes produce and ingredients that are both high quality and sourced where possible from the Bovey estate and the surrounding local areas. From local game to lamb, aged Dartmoor Farmers beef, and fish from the coast around the Southwest, our produce comes at no additional harm to the environment, and minimal miles.

4. A menu with something for everyone to enjoy

Head Chef, Mark Budd’s carefully created menu takes some of our favourite classic dishes and reinvents them using the best of British produce. At the best restaurant in Devon, you can expect freshly cooked food that’s bursting with flavour. From dressed Brixham crab salad to red wine braised oxtail cottage pie and poached native lobster with truffle macaroni cheese. Timeless dishes as you’ve never tasted them before.

5. Delectable Sunday Lunch

We’re all about celebrating great food in a traditionally British style, which is why as part of the relaunching, the Great Western Grill is pleased to introduce our new and deliciously comforting Sunday Lunch menu, as part of the relaunching of the best restaurant in Devon.

6. An exclusive Oyster and Champagne Bar

The grand opening of the grill wouldn’t be complete without a brand new Oyster and Champagne Bar, boasting an exclusive Champagne list to enjoy with caviar and oysters. Celebrate with some champers and indulge in the delights of the best restaurant in Devon.

7. Service with a smile

The Great Western Grill prides itself on providing outstanding service to all guests. You will be welcomed into the restaurant with the opportunity to have a drink at the Oyster and Champagne Bar, or if preferred to be seated directly at your table. All staff are highly trained and have great knowledge of the menu – they are on hand to answer any questions.

8. Breathtaking interiors set in a stunning location

The striking neo-Elizabethan architecture of the main house and grounds is both beautiful and unique. The restaurant respects the glamour of the Art Deco origins and echoes of a bygone era. Nestled in the heart of Dartmoor, Bovey Castle is a luxury countryside resort, and the perfect place to explore after enjoying your dining experience.

9. A luxury stay

After an exquisite dining experience, why not extend your stay at Bovey Castle and retreat to one of the beautifully appointed 60 rooms and suites, or perhaps one of our 22 self-catering country lodges scattered within the estate’s stunning grounds.

10. Enjoy a scenic travelling experience
