We offer an exceptional horseback adventure for enthusiastic, confident riders with our exclusive package working alongside our partner, Liberty Trails, who are specialists in tailor-made horse-riding holidays on Dartmoor.

Arrive to Bovey Castle for a three-night stay, knowing that the next two days will be spent exploring all of the beautiful sights of Dartmoor on horseback.  You will be picked up each morning from Bovey Castle, transported to your horse where you will saddle up and ride out.  You will be accompanied by an experienced mounted guide who can tell you all about the moor, it’s wildlife, history and legends and there will be a ground support vehicle carrying wonderful refreshments and any spare kit. You will cross varied, remote and stunning countryside, climbing to the top of tors, crossing rivers, and enjoying long, contour-hugging canters. You will definitely encounter Dartmoor’s famous native pony herds, see standing stones and more. On each day’s ride you will experience different parts of the moor.

Liberty Trails pride themselves on matching your skills and experience as a capable rider to their horses and welcome riders who want to bring their own horses. Advice will be given from a local vet on how to get your horse nicely fit for this sort of adventure if you are bringing your own. Also, a suggested packing list will be supplied.

Accommodation, activities and meals

At Bovey Castle you will stay in one of our luxurious Castle Rooms giving you high levels of comfort after a long day’s ride. You can enjoy our magnificent public spaces, our large indoor pool and Elan Spa during your stay. You will dine in Smith’s, the hotel’s bright, relaxed brasserie, and enjoy an a la carte meal in the Great Western Grill.

Additional activities, including falconry, archery, clay pigeon shooting and our 18-hole championship Golf course, can be easily arranged for non-riders and riders alike. (Extra activities not included in the price).
