There is something wonderfully freeing about dining outdoors. The pace slows, conversation lingers and the afternoon seems to stretch a little further.
At Bovey Castle, the gardens, woodland and lake provide a suitably spectacular backdrop. Your picnic setting will be prepared with a parasol, blanket and Veuve Clicquot deckchairs, creating your own place to pause within the estate.
All that remains is to pour the Champagne, open the hamper and decide that nowhere else requires your attention for a while.
At the heart of Le Picnic is a carefully curated menu for two, bringing together classic picnic favourites and the flavours of the West Country.
Begin with artisan homemade breads and cultured butter, followed by oak-smoked and cured salmon served with lemon, capers and watercress. A selection of charcuterie comes with condiments and pickles, while West Country cheeses are paired with crackers and homemade chutney.
Seasonal berries with clotted cream provide a suitably indulgent finish, accompanied by still mineral water and a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut. Guests can also upgrade to a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Rosé for an additional £20.
Le Picnic is made for those afternoons when the occasion matters, but the schedule does not.
