Why did you choose Bovey Castle for your wedding? 

Bovey Castle has always held a special place in our hearts. We’ve stayed there several times over the years and have always been struck by its beauty - both the grand hotel and the breathtaking grounds. The staff are consistently warm, friendly, and attentive, making every visit memorable. On our very first trip, even before we were engaged, we wandered down to the Summer House and both pictured ourselves exchanging vows there one day. So when it came time to choose a venue, there really was no competition - Bovey Castle was the only place we could imagine saying “I do.”

What made you choose the time of year? Did it relate to anything special? 

Summer felt like the natural choice. We’d made it a tradition to visit Bovey Castle every June to celebrate my husband’s birthday, so the season already held lovely memories for us. We’d always pictured our ceremony at the Summer House, surrounded by the estate’s beautiful gardens, and June brings the florals to life in the most stunning way. It was the perfect backdrop for our day.

What was your favourite part of the day? 

 It’s almost impossible to choose - every moment was unforgettable. Being whisked away in a golf buggy for our couples’ photos was such fun, giving us a few minutes to laugh together in the middle of all the excitement. In the evening, we had a singer, and thanks to the warm weather, Bovey Castle kindly let us enjoy the music out on the terrace, singing and dancing under the summer sky. The food and beverage team were exceptional, making sure no one’s glass was ever empty. And when the formalities wound down, a group of us headed to the lawn for a fiercely competitive game of late-evening croquet — who knew it would be such a highlight!

Is there anything that made your day extra special? 

The people. Every single member of the Bovey Castle team made us feel like royalty. A special thanks goes to our wedding co-ordinator, Soph, who answered every one of our (many!) questions with patience, kindness, and professionalism. Her calm and caring approach made the planning process a joy.

What is your top planning tip?

Spreadsheets are your best friend. In the four weeks leading up to the wedding, we lived by ours - every detail, deadline, and to-do meticulously planned. All that planning meant the day ran flawlessly, letting us relax and enjoy every moment.
