Bovey Castle Newsletter November

Captain’s Message

As Autumn is well upon us and we struggle with all the leaves on the course and finding your ball becomes a treasure hunt, I look back over the season with much pride as a member of Bovey Castle, for such a small club and how far we have come. We welcome the new General Manager, Dean Gunston and wish him well on his appointment and to join us on our own recently restored “table of knowledge” in Smith’s at any time. We start in earnest our plans for 2023 and producing the diary, with new events top of this agenda, our first committee meeting will be on the 24th November and if any members would like to let us know of their thoughts for this coming year, then please let Dan or myself know. I look forward to seeing you on one of the Mardon days or at the Turkey Trot in December.

Pro’s Message

Now Winter is almost with us and with all the wet weather we’ve been experiencing, it may be necessary that Sean and his team to do work to the green surfaces to ensure they are playable at short notice. This will likely lead to some disruption, we will try to keep this to a minimum but ask that if this does happen you understand this is only being done to ensure playability over the winter months.

Course Update and Upcoming Work

We have had Tom Mckenzie, a golf course architect of Mckenzie and Ebert visit to view the 9th hole. Tom will also be providing recommendations as to future improvements and changes. We will keep you updated with details as and when we receive them. We will also be doing a lot of tree work over the winter period to improve playing lines on the golf course. Plans are also in place to level the 4th white tee and the 8th yellow/white tee.
