Fly Fishing at Bovey Castle

Bovey Castle is the perfect fishing hotel – not least because you can fish our stocked lake from the hotel grounds!

In addition to the estate fishing, Bovey Castle and the Upper Teign Fishing Association offers angling for brown trout, salmon and sea trout on many miles of the Upper Teign, a 10 minute drive from the hotel.

Permits for a days fishing cost only £25.00, a personal rod license is needed and can be purchased from the local post office during opening hours.

Fishing on our stocked lake is year round, permits are £25.00 for a whole day £15.00 for half day if you would like to borrow a basic fishing kit this is £5.00. The seasons for fishing on the Upper Teign are: Brown/sea trout – 15 March to 30 September Salmon – 1 February to 30 September

Guiding and Tuition

We can also arrange a professional instructor or guide for you, offering expert fly fishing tuition and guiding. Our guides can help you to get the most from your fishing while are here with us at Bovey Castle.

Have a go introduction sessions with one of the activities team for the guests who are new to the pursuit are available in small group numbers. Learn the basics of casting a fly and some the more traditional techniques. A chargeable activity at £30pp for 90 mins session.

Fly fishing instruction and coaching take place on the hotel lakes with our fully- qualified instructor. These sessions are wonderful introduction to fly fishing and you will be taught the fundamentals of fly casting.

Price per person is £95 for a 2 hour session. (A minimum of two guests are required for a fly fishing session, with no more than four guests at one time. There is a minimum age limit of eight years for fly fishing at Bovey Castle).

In addition to helping you enjoy the hotels lake and the River Teign, we can also take you fly fishing on local Devon reservoirs at Kennick, Fernworthy and Roadford for Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. More Information
