Brixham Pirate Festival

The Brixham Pirate Festival is a weekend bursting with entertainment for young and old! Everyone is welcome to join in with the pirate games, re-enactments and fancy dress record attempt.

The festival broke the Guinness World record for the biggest gathering of pirates in 2010 with 1744 people dressed as pirates on Brixham's harbour.

The Hunting of the Earl of Rone
Combe Martin, North Devon
Between May 25th - May 28th 2012

Each spring bank holiday, Combe Martin holds the Hunting of the Earl of Rone, a re-enactment of an ancient legend. People in costume form a parade led by a hobby horse to hunt out the Earl, who rides backwards on a donkey.

Villagers start hunting the Earl on Friday evening until Monday, when he is captured in Lady's Wood at the top of the village. He is then escorted down to the seaside and thrown into the sea.

Husbandry School's Creative Sunday Workshop

A lively monthly workshop that follows the changing seasons with traditional storytelling and participatory story making activities for all the family.  Activities include drawing, painting, sculpting, making, finding and listening. The Husbandry School, just outside Ashburton, is set on a stunning hilltop location over looking the hills of Dartmoor. The Creative Workshop is suitable for children 5 years and up and must be accompanied by an adult.

Jurassic Coast
East Devon and Dorset coastline

UNESCO awarded Natural World Heritage status to the coast of Dorset and East Devon in December 2001, in recognition of its unique landscape, which spans 185 million years of Earth history.

Start your exploration of this beautiful coastline at Orcombe Point in Exmouth, here the rocks are 250 million years old and are red in colour. Follow the Jurassic coastline into Dorset and Studland Bay, where you could spot dolphins, basking sharks and hundreds of different types of birds.
