SERVICE CHARGE EXPLAINED
Bovey Castle’s policy of including a discretionary service charge across each of the hotel’s retail outlets/departments was introduced in 2008.
The aim of the charge is to reward every member of staff who contributes towards the Bovey Castle experience. It is extremely difficult to reward exceptional service from those members of staff who operate in less visible hotel departments, which is why the service charge is distributed equally.
For our guests who choose to pay the service charge, 100% of this money is given back to Bovey Castle’s staff via the staff council, represented by an employee from each department. This body of hotel employees is responsible for allocating funds for departmental outings, monthly performance bonuses, gifts for special occasions and personal development grants.
In the last 18 months, the service charge has funded the provision of a full kit for an RNLI volunteer, paid for the training of a member of staff to give English lessons to support the hotel’s international workforce and offered financial assistance towards compassionate leave.
Its impact on the future development of hotel staff and its recognition of ambition and dedication are essential elements of employment at Bovey Castle.
(Bovey Castle's service charge is purely discretional, which we carefully highlight throughout the entire guest experience.)

“A most English of English Country estates, Bovey doesn’t suffer from the stuffiness you might expect of this type of resort".

"Bovey Castle is remarkable - from the setting to the service to the rooms. We had planned to stay just one night but loved it so much we stayed another and even then hated to leave."
