TIME TO FLY

Falconry is the most majestic Dartmoor pastime to be found on the moorland, combining the sheer thrill of watching the flight and behavioral trends of birds of prey with learning a skill that has been at the centre of traditional country sports for centuries.

Martin Whitley has been flying and displaying his birds of prey at Bovey Castle for the last 10 years, with more and more of our guests participating in his half-day and full-day workshops at the Dartmoor Hawking Falconry Centre.

Time to Fly combines the luxury experience of Dartmoor living at Bovey Castle with the opportunity to experience birds of prey like never before. During the two-night break, your stay will include a 90-minute Falconry Experience followed by a 90-minute Moor Hawk Walk the next day, with breakfast on both mornings.

The Falconry Experience is your introduction to falconry with Dartmoor Hawking, where you fly a variety of different birds of prey, observe their individual characteristics and witness the wonderful rapport that exists between falconers and their birds.

The Moor Hawk Walk is your opportunity to join Martin and his hawks for a walk on Dartmoor. Not only does this give you the chance to fly hawks in a natural environment, you also experience Dartmoor National Park at its most dramatic.

With wellies and a wax jacket from the hotel, Martin will collect you from Bovey Castle for your Falconry Experience and Moor Hawk Walk and provide you with full instruction on handling birds of prey and a falconry glove.

From £370 per person for two nights.

This offer is subject to availability, valid until March 31st 2012, inclusive of VAT and is based on two people sharing a Classic room and breakfast on both mornings. Alternative falconry options will be available in case of adverse weather conditions. Time to Fly cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.  This rate is for a minimum and maximum of 2 nights.  Additional nights can be booked on alternative rates.
